The Lightworks console
The Lightworks Console
is an integral part of the system.All editing commands are accessed from the console and all play and shuttle functions are controlled from here too.
The console is designed so that all the buttons fit easily to the dimensions of your hand, so within minutes you can stop looking at the console and
concentrate on your material.

The controls on the console are:
is used to stop any material or VTR that is currently playing. But it also acts as a shift key to access secondary functions
on many of the other buttons on the Console.
plays material, edits or a VTR at 1x/2x play speed. If you also hold the stop button it steps forward 1 frame at a time.
plays material, edits or a VTR backwards at -1x/2x play speed. If you also hold the stop button it steps
backwards 1 frame at a time.
puts a mark on the material or edit that you are working with as a reference point for a cut or transition.
removes a mark from material or an edit. If you also hold the stop button it acts as a short cut for reselect/deselect
when trimming with the Stripview.
jumps back to the last cut point, mark or cue in your edit or material. If you also hold the stop button it jumps
back to the beginning of your edit or material.
jumps forward to the next cut point, mark or cue in your edit or material. If you also hold the stop button it
jumps forward to the end of your edit or material.
swaps between the current position on your material and a marked position, allowing you to compare in and out
points on pieces of material. If you also hold the stop button it swaps between your recorder and the last source you were using.
puts a permanent cue point on the current frame of a piece of material. Cues can be jumped to or accessed directly
by clicking a button on the filecard for that material. You can have as many cues as you like on a piece of material and you can name
them if you wish. Holding stop and cue together removes the current cue point.
puts a piece of material into an edit at the current point replacing any material that was there before. Using stop
and replace together will put the material into the edit backtimed from the current point.
puts a piece of material into an edit at the current point opening up the edit for the new material, like a film insert.
deletes material from the edit, closing the gap which would remain. It does not delete the material from the system.
removes material from an edit, leaving the gap which the material occupied as black and/or silence.
allows you to shuttle material, edits or a VTR backwards or forwards at speeds from 0 to 10 times play speed. Audio scrubs smoothly across all channels up to about 4 times play speed. The shuttle control has détente positions at 0, 1x and -1x play speed.
